Some call it the UFO House or Flying Saucer House. It's real name is Futuro. It was designed in 1968 by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen. It's 28 feet in diameter and came completely equipped with custom furnishings that fit the interesting shape of this house.

| This is the Futuro House. You actually enter through a "hatch" stairway, the same as you would imagine in a "real" flying saucer. | ![]() |
| It was originally designed for use as a ski-cabin or holiday home. The design was great for this, as it shed snow well and had low wind resistance. | ![]() |
| This is a beautiful shot of a Futuro against the night sky. This one has additional windows under the single row of windows in the mid-section. | ![]() |
My first experience with this odd-shaped flying saucer was when I was growing up in Tampa, FL. At the time, I had no idea what I was looking at. I certainly didn't know it was once a house designed by a Finnish architect. To me, and to many, it was just this futuristic UFO shaped oddity on the roof of the 2001 Odyssey Strip Club in Tampa. Supposedly, it was (and still is) the place you would go for private lap dances. I was in my twenties before I found out what a Futuro was. Now, when I think about the Futuro on the roof of the 2001, I just think, "What a waste". There aren't many of these around and this one probably isn't going up for sale any time soon. |
